Cold remedies

My chest hurts and I’ve been coughing for ages. My head is killing me and I’ve got a runny nose.

I have a cold! So my coworker gave me interesting advice to help alleviate my cough and congestion.

1. Drink a mix of 3 oz whiskey or bourbon, 1.5 oz honey, and .5 oz lemon juice.

2. Put a pot on the stove and fill with water. Boil it and breathe in the steam.

It got me thinking... what alternative methods do you guys have? I’ve also heard of Vick’s on the bottom of year feet with socks on but I can’t sleep with socks on!

I have loads of raw garlic, cayenne pepper, eucalyptus essential oil, and lemons. I don’t have the other things but this is definitely a good place to start.

For the essential oil - I have a humidifier/diffuser. Whenever I put it next to my bed overnight with eucalyptus oil, my sinuses feel clogged up. Am I doing something wrong? Maybe too much oil? (5 drops and roughly 2-3 cups of water). Do you think using tap water vs distilled makes a difference? I usually just use tap. Or maybe I should skip the diffuser all together and put a drop on my wrists? The one I have is all natural and can be applied topically.

Also vicks on the feet with socks overnight

Vicks on the chest

If you are coughing from post nasal drip.... those neil med nose sprays do wonders to clear sinuses and help prevent drip that causes coughing. It's really gross, but it works

Anyone have foot pain...!??

I have the #1 cure and I guarantee it will work 99% of the time.
Cheap beer and Listerine. Warm the beer up on the stove but not to boiling. Add 1 cup (6-8 oz.) of Listerine and then just soak the effected foot in the solution for 20 to 30 minutes. Repeat if necessary, but usually one treatment is all you need.

Instead of breathing those ingredients in, Araz you should try drinking them instead. They make you sweat the cold out. And 'old Wives tales are generally the best'
I find 'vix also beneficial. Vix has multiple purposes ,or you could try Beechams (max strength)

The rhinoviruses that cause colds cannot tolerate heat. Sit in a sauna for an hour and you'll cut the time you endure a cold by 70%.

A cold is a result of a compromised immune system so lessening the load is important.

Get off all grains and sugars, artificial flavors, colorings and preservatives.
Drink only clean water and lots of it (not overdoing it of course)
And eat proper food like meat, vegetables and eggs. If fish is your preference that is fine too.

For supplementation you can use vitamin c and minerals.

Other than that it’s only time that heals as the body takes care of things itself.

I don’t get proper colds anymore unless I compromise myself. And then it only lasts for maximum a day. I was chronically ill in my youth following the advice of people supposedly in the know.

You will know when you are doing it right as you won’t get colds anymore and if you get the flu it will be a slight fever lasting merely for a couple of hours.

We’ve come accustomed to disease that is not normal for us, but as we put so much crap in our bodies the system gets overwhelmed.

I've heard drinking bourbon helps, too. I haven't tried it.

So the last few days I have been super congested. What helped for me was Theraflu, Vicks vapor rub, and Chicken and Rice soup.

Chicken noodle soup, also known as "Jewish penicillin," really does help to de-congest a person with a cold. Staying warm is also a necessity. You won't get over a cold quickly if you can't stay warm.

Now, if you have a cold, do NOT drink ANYTHING that is cold. No cold drinks! Everything you drink should be warm. Cold germs LOVE the cold--but they hate heat. Even soaking in a warm tub of water will help to shorten your cold. A sauna is even better.

Who wants to join me in the hot tub, clothing optional.

Do you have a nice, cold pond to jump in afterwards?

Hey guys, I feel much better! I took a lot of this advice, especially the hot baths. I just did tea (no bourbon) and that helped. I have sniffles still but no more fever!
