so is that 1k stim pack check really coming in the mail?

I understand feeling its too good to be true, but...it's not like these people are doing it out of the good of theie hearts. A recession hurts everybody so yeah they want to help get the economy jumpstarted.

1000 bucks might mean the differnce between making or not making ends meet for a lot of people.

I think for those who dont really need it its extra spending money to get the economy started again.

Not necessarily. I'm taking (at a very low dose) an antidepressant which, strangely enough, is REALLY eff2ctive for blocking neurological pain & the deleterious mental effects are quite noticeable.

Oh. I took Lexapro for a bit and it didn't really have any kind of affect like that on me, but I doubt it was the strongest thing they could have put me on. I have stayed away from such medications since.

Fine.

That is still great news. Shocked at how fast things are moving on that front tbh. If they get a vaccine and mass produce it quickly social distancing will be less important. And the economy can get back to normal

Speaking of hypocrisy though (including my own because i cant help myself), looking at this stimulus package that is being decided in congress today....

I guess everyone is a socialist in a foxhole?

I wonder how concerned republicans are that these poor corona test kit companies are going to lose so much money making free tests.

There's a story bout a man that was in one of the floods down south not long ago(somewhere in Florida).

Authorities drove a Jeep with a sort of transport carrier behind it to help evacuate residents after a destructive storm was moving in the towns direction.
A man there refused to go with the rescue officers though. He felt strongly that through his faith the lord would protect him. So the officers left.

Later, the storm came and the flooding began. Water rose higher and higher until it began to flood the mans house. Eventually busting in the mans windows and doors.

Officers searching for people who may still be in the area came back through on a large raft. The officers advised the man to get on the raft and evacuate immediately. The man still refused and stayed at his house fully faithful the lord will protect him.

Finally, realizing the flooding would likely destroy most of the town, officers sent helicopters to make sure they hadn't missed anyone. The officers that tried to get the man on the boat, tried one last time to evacuate the man after finding him now stranded on his roof.

"God will protect me" the man told them as they gave up and flew away.

The man died.

When he got to heaven he met god and asked him "God, you failed me, you let me die in the flood. How could this happen?"

God said to the man "Go to hell you stupid fool, I sent you a jeep, a raft, and a helicopter. What else did you expect????"

I feel like the first time I heard that story was in church as a kid and the point was that we should learn to recognize when god is giving us a gift and not to shun it.

It is fun to poke fun at silliness though.

Unless you're referring to faith healing, which isn't a mainstream religious doctrine, i don't think your logic really follows.

As far as i know you can be religious and still be afraid of getting sick.

Anyway as a rational nonbeliever you ought to be praising their appropriate response to the situation, which helps all of us, rather than ridiculing them for it.

In the cultural conflict between antitheism and religion, the antitheist ought to praise the other side when they do good things, since these are behaviors you ought to want to promote rather than dumping on them no matter what they do, and seeming biased as a result.
