Does anyone here understand how to calculate interest?

This is called compound interest.
The formula is this:

A = P(1 + (r/n))^nt

A = final amount
P = initial principal balance
r = interest rate
n = number of times interest applied per time period
t = number of time periods elapsed

So, with your numbers:

A = ???
P = 10,000 -- initial loan
r = 0.1 -- 10% = 10/100 = 1/10 = 0.1
n = 1 -- Assuming interest compounds yearly
t = 5 -- Number of years

A = 10000 * (1 + 0.1/1)^(1*5)
A = 10000 * 1.1^5
A = 10000 * 1.61051
A = 16105.1

So you'd end up paying $16,105.10 at the end of your 5 year period.

There are many online calculators that will help you out with these, but yes- this is standard. Compound interest is used across investments, loans, and general banking, as well as many other things. It's less of a "common formula" and more just how things work.

Of course, many of them compound monthly, but in order to keep things simple they tell you the yearly interest. To get the monthly interest, just divide the yearly interest by 12 and then multiply either the period or number of compounds by 12. You can see the numbers get a lot harder to work with, but you'll end up with the same results in most situations, assuming you're not paying it down over time. Some institutions might charge interest on the full amount and other loans might be based on the amount still owed. Usually it's the former, but credit card debt is based on the current amount rather than the total.

How can I post a picture in a message/post?

HQA doesn't host/store images, so if you want to include an image in a message or post, assuming it's hosted elsewhere, you just drop in the url!

The above is just this:

I'm a lurker. :) I see most things that happen here, but for the most part I'm just a fly on the wall.

How do you make friends as an adult?

My brother bought some racquet ball equipment and regularly posts on social media that he's got a gym membership with a guest, so he can bring other people. He just leaves an open invite and talks to people about it and now and then he gets people to come.

Hobbies. That's basically the only way. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Find a hobby, even if it's as simple as walking. There are lots of online meetup type sites and apps where you can find others that enjoy the hobby as well. Find groups that talk about or do the hobby collectively. Join those groups, and be open. Talk to people and be friendly. Friends will come.

Does anyone want to talk about New Years resolutions?

It's a whole bunch of spam that got in under HelpBot's radar.

I've removed a bunch of them (probably missed some) and gave HelpBot an update so they shouldn't be showing up anymore! (Hopefully...)

For once I did as I was told.

Sounds like either a panic attack or malnourishment. Get some food, get some sugar, calm down however you've found best to do so. Then time to make some phone calls. ๐Ÿ™‚

No- he is manipulating you. You're not in the wrong at all. Not just that, but this is a common scamming tactic. You are being controlled and you need to get out. Now.

Show the police the messages- they'll be able to identify it quickly. They won't think you're crazy. They understand that mistakes can happen and that's okay. You will not be held responsible for this. They will be glad you came to them rather than continuing down this road.

This sounds like a dangerous man. The sooner you get out, the better.
As soon as Paypal or any kind of cypto is mentioned, that's a big red flag in my book.

It may be a pain, but you may need to close your bank account- but I would ask the police what they recommend in that regard. It may not be necessary. They have seen this type of thing before and they will know how to respond.

Does the suicide prevention bot just spam everyone now or does it know me

HelpBot looks for keywords in your message, specifically things like "depressed" will trigger him. Could have been sulk or something similar as well.

It's good to see you @Nevermind. I'm sorry to hear you're going through this, but I'm glad you came! I think you should try to get a hold of your therapist even just for a quick call. They'll understand. Life can get crazy and stack up. Don't worry about being a burden- those are the feelings they're trying to help you get over.

I don't really do them- If I'm going to make a change I'm going to make it when I need it rather than wait for the new year to start...

However, I do tend to avoid going to gyms for the first 2-3 months of each year to avoid the crazy resolutioners. ๐Ÿ˜…

Hi Guys , long time no post!

Safe here! Been exposed a couple of times, but never caught it. A few family members have caught and kicked it (Including my 85 year old grandpa!) so we're doing pretty well!

Hope things are going well for you too. Happy Holidays!
